The City of Shady Cove is recruiting a full-time City Administrator. Qualified candidates can find the job announcement, description, and application under the employment opportunities tab on the city’s webpage.

City staff and council are reviving the work for a city owned municipal water system to bring water services to the residents south of the Rogue River. A feasibility study contract is in place and RH2 Engineering, the city’s engineering contractor, is heading up the project. A grant from Business Oregon is funding the study and is needed to get this project under way. The city will be seeking additional funding to continue this ambitious endeavor through completion.

Talks are progressing with Sunstone Water who currently serves approximately three hundred residents primarily on the north side of the river to expand their service to more residents within their current service area.

City staff, the Mayor, and a Senior Accountant from the Rogue Valley Council of Governments, are working on the city’s financials and preparing for the next round of audit work. The city has been working tirelessly catching up on past delinquent audits dating back to 2021. The city just completed its 2023 audit in December of 2025 and is currently preparing the 2024 audit. The goal is to complete the 2024 audit as soon as possible and begin the 2025 audit. As the city balances its books and completes each audit the successive audit should be easier to work through.

City Council is also currently working on a proposed Right-of-Way ordinance. Council is soliciting input from all the utilities who operate within the city limits. A future workshop is being considered to provide an opportunity for utility companies and citizens to provide their input.

The City Budget Committee will begin discussions on the city budget in a workshop scheduled for Monday April 13, 2026, at 10:00am at the Jackson County Library here in Shady Cove.

The city’s public works have been working on storm drain maintenance, patching potholes, repairing street signs, maintaining equipment and preparing for spring by mowing the two city park properties. Weed control work is also beginning along the city Right-of-Way.

The city has a free weed trimmer loaner program. We have a limited number of trimmers for residents to borrow. Contact City Hall to reserve the use of the trimmers at 541.878.2225.

A home that succumbed to fire over two and a half years ago on Yew Wood Drive has been purchased by a contractor who has begun cleaning up the lot. The new owner of the property is currently finishing up their construction plans and preparing for submittal to the county for approval and a building permit. They are hoping to begin construction within the next several weeks.
