From Hiland/NW Natural operations:

Our system is back at normal levels, and all operations have been normal all weekend. Customers who don’t feel like they are at full capacity can contact us directly. We had extra staff in the area yesterday.

We drew a water sample for the lab yesterday and expect results tomorrow, which could lift the boil water notice.

There is no longer a need to continue restricting outdoor water use.

The City of Shady Cove is under a boil water advisory. This is because the water has or could have germs that make you sick.  Information from the CDC can be found here.

From: David Roy
NW Natural-Sr. Director of Communications

Hiland Water employees have been working around the clock this week to make repairs and begin preparing the Shady Cove system for a return to service.

We would like to thank our customers and the community for their patience as we continue this work.

Hiland Water would like to take a moment to thank the many members of our community who have lent their support during this week’s water supply issues. To mention just a few:

  • Jackson County Fire District 4, which has helped stage and distribute water to residents
  • Shady Cove Mayor Jon Ball and his team for assistance in coordinating the response
  • Jackson County Emergency Management and other county staff.

As of Thursday evening, our intent is to have water service restored to all customers by mid-day Friday. Residents can still pick up bulk and bottled drinking water daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Fire District 4 headquarters (21200 Highway 62) until full water service is restored.

Once water begins flowing, customers may experience some air in the system. Leave taps open momentarily to allow this air to purge. We ask that customers continue to take conservation measures and limit water use so that we can fully recharge the system. This will also help ensure everyone has enough water for drinking, cooking, and bathing.

As a reminder, Hiland Water customers are still under a Boil Water Advisory, which will continue at least 24 hours after service is restored, pending water sample testing results.

A boil water advisory is issued when water pressures drop below certain levels. In rare instances, a pressure loss may allow contaminants to enter the water supply. As a precaution, water should be boiled for one minute before use, such as drinking, cooking, or making baby formula.

With the complex incident of the Hiland Water Corporation water emergency, the City of Shady Cove has activated emergency response agencies and the Jackson County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to increase coordination among local stakeholders.

Residents can continue receiving bottled drinking water from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM at the Fire District headquarters at 21200 Highway 62. Beginning this evening, bulk drinking water will be available as well. It will continue through Sunday evening daily from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM, or until the point full water service is restored. Hiland Water Corporation provides bulk water to affected customers while work continues restoring service. “We are committed to meeting the needs of our affected customers,” says David Ball, Public Information Officer for Hiland Water Corporation.

At a special meeting today, the City of Shady Cove declared a State of Emergency, providing additional support through the County EOC if needed. “We are taking action now and collaborating with the County and Hiland Water Corporation to ensure the safety of our citizens,” says Jon Ball, Mayor of the city.

For more information on the status of repairs, you can contact Hiland Water Corporation at (503) 554-8333.
