Updated Shady Cove Sign Ordinance

NOTICES ARE GOING OUT THE FIRST WEEK OF JANUARY

The new Sign Code is in effect.  The City has sent letters out to all businesses.  We wanted to wait until the tourists were gone.  We will now be enforcing the Sign Code.  Please assist us in keeping the businesses clean and professional looking.

Here’s a brief explanation of the sign code update.

In order to clarify the Sign Code and help improve the appearance of our town, the Sign Code section of the Code of Ordinances was updated.  Here are some of the changes:

  • Several addition types of signs are clearly prohibited, including:

Signs resembling traffic devices

Signs affixed to publicly owned poles or signs in the right of way

Signs using fluorescent colors

Signs placed on private property without the owner’s permission

  • The code was clarified to clearly state that signs may be in vision clearance areas if they do not obstruct the view between heights of 3 feet and 15 feet.
  • Temporary Banners which used to be allowed for six months are now only allowed for 45 days, they can be replaced by another temporary sign with a different message
  • Sandwich boards must be stored inside when businesses are not open overnight
  • There are new provisions requiring compliance with materials and construction standards, in both initial construction and on-going maintenance.
  • All signs must be professionally manufactured.
